Abstract
IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) is a set of standards, under development by 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP), to provide multimedia services unifying a wireless/wired phone, an internet, a television, and etc.
IMS is based on Internet Protocol(IP) and the structure providing VoIP, video, PoC(Port of Call), presence service, conference service, instant message, and etc. without any platform restriction. A method of Network Monitoring over IMS is necessary to use IMS efficiently. To analyze packets, a popular method of Network Monitoring, an understanding of SIP is needed first.
SIP is the protocol on application level for call setup, which was presented by Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF). It is not only good for an existing VoIP service but also a variety of multimedia services to set up the session, change, or end. SIP is consisted of text-base so it is possible to operate with all equipment which can use text and easy to expand. Therefore, SIP is applied for basic protocol of IMS.
In this paper, we suggest Visual Packet Analyzer providing a graph of SIP packet information to help users understand and monitor IMS network.
