Abstract

This study is going to analyze change of view of high school students about the military and change of awareness about national security after military experience. Based on these observations, This study is going to tell about how important military experience is to apprehend army and cultivate a positive outlook on nation and security.

In Korea, many corps(including Marine Corps, Special Forces, Subordinates of Army, Navy and Air Force) carry out military experience as an annual event under cooperation of local citizens, local office of education and local government. Generally each corps carries out basic military exercise like guerrilla traning, close-order drill, firing, an individual combat, weapon and equipment exhibition and security education. But the traditional way doesn't have much effect on reconsidering the security minds of the young.

But earlier in this year, military experience event supervised by Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, supported by National Intelligence Service, enforced at army 00 troop. Unlike the past events, it showed different aspects.

The event covering for 38 freshmen of high school in Daejeon during the Feb. 11 ~13, 2009 and 38 sophomore during the Feb. 16~18 carried out security education and industrial facilities invitation for the first time in Korea through field trip including Agency for Defence Development, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Dae-Chung dam, Korea Water Resources Corporation and visiting lecture given by the first Korean astronaut Dr. So-yeon Lee, professor Young-chan Park of Carnegie Research Institute, North Korean defector Ha-neul Kim etc.

In this study, We compared a case of military experience enforced in army 00 troop with traditional cases of other troops. And analyzing it with using the questionnaire taken by high school students who participated in the event and public relation brochure and stuffs published by other troops and the 00 troop. On the basis of this, We have studied about how to improve efficiently juvenile's national security mind with analysis about actual condition of current military experience.

In detail, the first chapter introduces purpose of study, research methods and basic theories. The second chapter consists of importance of security education for earlier generation and present status of national security minds. One of the ways to inspire national security minds for earlier generations, this chapter suggests military experience for high school students. On the basis of analysis results, this study is going to maintain effective way of security education through military experience for high school students. The third chapter includes concrete way to realize - time and contents of programs etc - and expectations.
